Understanding Salvation
When you ask Jesus into your heart, you are allowing Him to be the Lord of your life. Our sins were paid for by Jesus on the cross. Christ now lives within you. Please understand, becoming a Christian does not mean we will be perfect. We will sin again. Sin breaks the intimate fellowship with God, but it does not separate us from God. Our relationship is still secure. When we sin we must admit our sin, repent, turn from that sin and make every effort not to commit that sin again, asking God to forgive us. God is faithful and merciful. He will immediately restore our fellowship with him.
The Prayer of Salvation
The Salvation prayer is a communication tool to outwardly express our inward conviction of our faith in Jesus Christ. There is no special formula. Just pray with sincerely from your heart to God, and He will save you. If you are lost and do not have the words to pray here is a sample prayer.
"God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. I have done many things that don't please you. I am sorry and I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. I ask you to forgive me of my sins. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross at Calvary, and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. Please send your Holy Spirit to take control of my life so everything I do is pleasing you. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in Jesus' precious and holy name. Amen."
